Using SPSS v15

Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) is a powerful program that allows you to manipulate data sets and use various statistics for data analyses. This workshop is divided into four parts. Below is a description for each part.

Using SPSS v15 Part 1
Descriptive Statistics-- Part One deals with basic data entry and reporting. Start with defining variables, following with certain functions under descriptive statistics that will help you summarize the data entered into SPSS.

Using SPSS v15 Part 2
Test of Significance-- In Part Two, you will learn how to use certain inferential statistics (correlations and T test) that will help you answer research questions and test hypotheses from your research. You will also learn some time-saving data-entry techniques that are useful for managing a large data set.

Using SPSS v15 Part 3
Linear Regression -- Part Three deals with a statistical function that is used to predict values — linear regression (simple and multiple), which estimates the coefficients of the linear equation. We will also cover an application that uses a computing function to transform preexisting values into new ones.

Using SPSS v15 Part 4
Chi-Square and ANOVA -- Part Four introduces not only basic skills for performing a hypothesis test — Chi-Square Test for Goodness of Fit but also generalized pool t-test - ANOVA. The step-by-step instructions will guide you to perform “test of significance” and help you understand how to interpret the output of your research question(s).
